Events

​​Rockville Chorus performs two major concerts each year, in December and May, with several smaller performances each semester. The semi-annual concerts are held at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre at the Rockville Civic Center Park, located at 603 Edmonston Drive, Rockville, Maryland 20851. 
 

ROCKVILLE CHORUS CONCERTS ARE FREE. No tickets are required. Donations are appreciated. Ample free parking is available. Seating is first-come, first-served.

MESSIAH SING-ALONG at the Kennedy Center, December 23, 2023

Rockville Chorus was honored to sing onstage at the Kennedy Center with other local choruses for the 51st annual Messiah Sing-Along. It was a thrill to raise our voices with roughly 150 other singers onstage, an amazing orchestra, and 2,500+ audience members singing along!

"HALLELUJAH FOR HOLIDAY CLASSICS" December 17, 2023

Holiday classics bring joy to all, and our holiday concert included, among many favorites, "Jingle Bells" by James Lord Pierpont, "Light One Candle" by Peter Yarrow, the traditional Hebrew song "S’Vivon," "What Sweeter Music" by John Rutter, and "You’re a Mean One Mister Grinch" by Albert Hague and Dr. Seuss. The event was capped off by selections from Handel’s "Messiah," ending in a rousing Hallelujah chorus with joyful participation from the audience!

"UNITED IN MUSIC" May 21, 2023

Celebrating how music unites us all, our spring concert featured "Blues in the Night," arranged by Jim Sadler, "United in Purpose," words by Maya Angelou, music by Rollo Dilworth, "Medley from Les Miserables," arranged by Ed Lojeski, "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot," arranged by Moses Hogan, "Prayer of the Children," words and music by Kurt Bestor, arranged by Mark Hayes, and much more.

"CELEBRATING THE LIGHT" December 18, 2022

Our holiday concert celebrated the start of Hanukkah and the entire holiday season, with a program featuring "Chanukah Prayer for Children" by Ryan Brechmacher, "Ose Shalom" by John Leavitt, "Gloria" by Antonio Vivaldi, "Shepherd’s Pipe Carol" by John Rutter, "Good King Kong Looked Out" by PDQ Bach, and other holiday favorites.

The program featured "West Side Story" by Leonard Bernstein, "We Dance" by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, "Come Sunday" by Duke Ellington, "The Ground" by Ola Gjeilo, "I Will Sing with the Spirit" by John Rutter, and much more.

"HOLIDAY HARMONIES" December 22, 2019

Selections for the program include Vivaldi's "Magnificat," Ola Gjeilo’s "Ecce Novum," Rutter’s "Star Carol," and "Irving Berlin’s Christmas." Additional pieces include Michael Larkin’s "What is this Lovely Fragrance" and Mark Zuckerman’s "Fayer, Fayer" from the Yiddish Choral Series.

The varied program includes Broadway hits, folk songs, classical music, and more, including "Irving Berlin's America" (arr. Emerson), "Six Folk Songs" (Brahms), "Over the Rainbow" (Arlen), "For the Beauty of the Earth" (Rutter), and many others. 

"A HOLIDAY PATCHWORK CHORAL SAMPLER" December 16, 2018

A wide variety of music to celebrate the holiday season. Some selections for the program include "African Noel" by André J. Thomas, "Gloucestershire Wassail" by Steve Huffines, "Hanukkah Scherzo" by Dean Rishel, "How Lovely are the Messengers" by Felix Mendelssohn-Batholdy, and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" by John Rutter, along with additional pieces including "Flowers in Winter" with text by John Greenleaf Whittier and music by John Purifoy, and "Season of Light" by Jacob Narverud.

A program of music written entirely by American women composers, including Meredith Monk’s “Panda Chant II,” “Jesu” and “Pluck the Fruit and Taste the Pleasure” by Libby Larsen, Yse Barnwell’s “We Are” and “Wanting Memories,” Marta Keen’s “Homeward Bound,” “I Will Be Earth” by Gwyneth Walker, and “There is a Balm” by Alice Parker.

A diverse selection of classical and holiday music including Pachelbel’s “Magnificat,” Barber’s “Sure on This Shining Night,” Rutter’s “What Sweeter Music,” Rossi’s “Haleluya Haleli nafshi,” Snyder’s “Winter Pathetique” (based on Beethoven’s Sonata No 8, 2nd Movement (Pathetique), Myers’s “The Winter’s Night,” Ramos’s “One Light,” and others.
