“FROM THE BARD TO BROADWAY” CONCERT

Join the Rockville Chorus on Sunday, May 20, 2012 for their “From the Bard to Broadway” concert at 7:30 PM at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre at the Rockville Civic Center Park located at 603 Edmonston Drive, Rockville, Maryland 20851.

For this concert, Rockville Chorus Director, Bryan Seith, has chosen a wide variety of selections –including some madrigals, Renaissance standards, and Broadway hits. Some of the selections for this springtime concert include “Mille Regrets” by Josquin Desprez, “The Silver Swan” by Orlando Gibbons, and “Three Madrigals” arranged by Emma Lou Diemer, with text by William Shakespeare. Some whimsical pieces for this concert include Adriano Banchieri”s “The Animals Improvise Counterpoint” and “Animal Crackers” by American composer Eric Whitacre. And, in keeping with the light-hearted theme, the Chorus will sing “Brightly Dawns Our Wedding Day” from Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado.

Shifting focus to more contemporary music, the Chorus will perform the traditional American folksong, “Shenendoah”, arranged by James Erb, and then selections from two classic American musicals “Guys and Dolls” by Frank Loesser, and Meredith Wilson’s “The Music Man”.

The Rockville Chorus is currently composed of 70 members. They have been delighting local audiences of all ages with quality musical selections for more than thirty years. I thought the attached announcement of an all-Josquin concert by the Collegium Cantorum would interest you. This is a marvelous a cappella group of about a dozen singers who sing exclusively Renaissance music. I have heard them and can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed!

Graydon and I plan to go to the first concert.

ROCKVILLE CHORUS CMR BENEFIT CONCERT

The Rockville Chorus will perform with several other local choral groups in a concert to benefit Community Ministries of Rockville Emergency Assistance Program (REAP).
